After graduating from Howard University and then pursuing my MBA at Harvard Business School, I thought my career path was destined for corporate C-suites—but life had other plans.
In 1988, as a single mother of two, faced with a difficult divorce after 10 years of domestic violence, my goal was to bring in an extra $200 per week—just enough to afford daycare for my children.
I began selling Mary Kay® products to supplement my income. Within a year, I set company sales records. Soon after, my business grew to over $35 million in retail sales, leading a team of over 6,000 consultants around the world.
